The Art of Cutting |
The art of cutting, referred to as "Tailoring" Started in the 12th century in Europe and gradually created a skilled class of craftsmen that had the ability to measure an individual's body and then create a pattern from those measurements, then cut the fabric and stitch together the parts in order to fit the garment to that person's body contours. The cutter, who created the pattern and cut the selected cloth and the tailor who was designated to sew the pieces together, joined other tradesmen as valuable members of society. Each individual tailor developed special skills in the art and science of creating their own fashion dictates in order to suit their clientele. |
